The night rested on the trees like a damp velvet blanket, and mist sparkled on the emerald greenery around the lake. Each little breeze pushed little waves into the waters and one could almost here the blades of grass shifting in the damp night. But of course the one who was out on the lake at this time of night was not listening to the grass but taking a midnight stroll, a cigarette hanging from his mouth. Calix had developed the habit and really only continued because his mummy disapproved. He blew little smoke rings into the night and looked out at the lake, hoping he could find something- or someone to entertain himself with.
Technically he was supposed to be in bed at the current hour but he wasn't one for rules, and by his 7th year he'd learned a few tricks to keep his reputation pristine, no one needed to know what he did behind closed doors, or open ones if the mood so struck him. He reached up and flicked the collar of his jacket up.
In moments Calix was sitting in the willow tree closest to the lake, he could see the entire lake from his vantage point and he couldn't help his trademark faint smile from playing at his lips, sitting in a tree with smoke curling from his lips he honestly felt like a king, like no one could bring him down, and no one was above him. He enjoyed the feeling, feeding his already oversized ego. The night was warmer than he’d expected and the waters seemed gentle as he gazed out at them and then out into the night sky, he had always felt more at home in the night, like he somehow belonged here rather than in the day as everyone insisted he should.
He pulled himself from his mind, not wanting to think about anything but instead wanting to enjoy the dark serenity around him until he heard a faint splashing in the water, it wasn’t the small waves caused by the breeze, it sounded like someone swimming. He knew that nobody had followed him and that all the Slytherins were in the common room or bed when he’d left, he slid from the tree and looked around.
Looking out across the waters once again, and saw something. He wasn't quite sure what it was but a faint smile played at his lips anyway, his teeth flashing like wolf's in the black night, if he was correct there was a mop of blond hair coming towards the shore, delicious he thought to himself taking another drag. He pushed his hair back and waited until he could see the face connected to the platinum hair that was coming towards him, maybe tonight would be better than he’s expected, maybe he would have a little fun.

In the tallest tower of the grand castle Odette had crept from her bed. She had strung her hair up into a loose ponytail and barefoot led her own way from the room into the common room. But there her sudden need for a walk was not fulfilled. Slowly, she found her way to the lake, lit up by the moon it sparkled at her longingly. She heard it call for her company and she let her feet feel the less than lukewarm water. The sharp contrast to the fall air called to her. At her ankles the green-blue lake water swirled around her. She walked another step and another. At her waist, her nightgown burst like a balloon. White cotton on the surface of the murky water, it covered the sparkling water and in the moment she wanted it back.
Taking a breath, Odette brought her feet to her chest and her head went under the water. Her eyes open, she could only see a foot in front of her. But there was a fish swimming past her, orange and blue she watched it and it left into the underbrush. Gasping for a breath, she came up with her hair floated along the water and began to swim out farther.
Going under again, this time she saw no fish and the waters silent murkiness didn't seem as magical as it had before. It was only the beginning of a overrated lake monster movie. Goosebumps sprang up on her legs and she came up kicking. Her eyes saw the shoreline, and on cue she saw a line of smoke coming from a willow tree. A fire? Her mind sprang to it admittedly. Knowing a muggleborn would be convicted without trial if found near it, she began to sprint toward shore. Her silky hair released itself from the ponytail and dragged her behind, but she had fairly strong legs and the fear drove her.
With a few small waves trailing her feet, she stepped onto the grassy shore. Her nightgown clung to her thighs and dripping wet you could see her stomach through the cotton. She pulled it away from her chest so her breasts could breathe and twisted the water out of her hair so it wouldn't pull her down. Her eyes registered the boy sitting under the tree and she could see now, that he was smoking. The idiot had scared her half to death, but for some reason she wasn't angered at all. A smile fell onto her face, a cause of relief. "Well, hello there."

Calix relaxed at the sight of the girl coming from the water, she was striking but not so much in a ravishing way but in more of a lovely, innocent way, with a touch of darkness underneath that he could see clearly though he could tell that many others wouldn't see that in her. He let the smile play at his lips and dropped his cigarette to the ground, stomping it out before approaching the girl.
Her thin nightgown left nothing to the imagination, which was okay with him, he wasn't an imaginative type, he was a seeing is believing kind of guy and he always liked to see what he was getting into, and seeing the way she pulled the cloth away from herself assured him that she knew what she was doing, and could already tell what type of guy he was...either that or she was just very naive.
He didn't much care which one, he could work with either, but he was thinking that very naive just might be a little more fun. He gave a full smile then, a trademark of his was the kind smile full of devious thoughts. He pretended to pick a piece of fluff off his jacket and looked at his feet, if he was right with his assumption, she would probably jump all over his shy and confused act.
Still looking at his shoes, he lifted his shoulders a bit, tilted his head and said, "You must be awfully cold, miss." in his most gentlemanly voice, this of course was a complete act, he was nothing but a rich, spoiled, player and most of the girls in his year already knew that, but he hoped this one didn't since he'd never seen her around, hopefully his reputation hadn't preceded him.
But it didn't much matter to him if it had, because he could very easily go with the flow and change his angle at a moments notice, a true playboy through and through. Looking at her against the dark lake he couldn't stop his mind from going places it shouldn't, since he did in fact have a girlfriend, though their relationship wasn't in fact exclusive and he was pretty sure she knew that.
He looked up fully from his shoes, knowing that even if she did like him as the shy confused kid he pretended to be, she, like most other girls...and the occasional guy, couldn't resist his player's charm, but he decided he was quite ready to drop his act yet, he'd at least have a little fun with it. "Would you like my jacket?" he asked quietly, trying his best to sound sincere, and beginning to peel the sleeves from himself.

Dripping with crystal like water droppings and standing on a bank that was never completely dry, Odette felt the slight wind against her. She shivered and the hair on her legs and arms stood up slightly. Although her body told her to run for the feathery covering on her bed, her eyes were beginning to register the boy under the tree. He looked quite comfortable, with a confident smile on his face and a forgotten cigarette in his hand. She didn't need her mother's advice to know he was up to no good. Yet he looked familiar and the way he looked at her made her stand in her tracks. Who doesn't want a handsome man looking at them that way? She realized she had just been revealing herself and a slight blush ran across her cheeks but she wasn't one to care much. A boy like him must have seen it before.
Her arm hair spiked back up when he spoke. A gentlemanly voice asking if she was cold. She nodded her head slightly but didn't say anything, she was still observing him with the gnawing thought that she had seen him around. But with a concern like that he couldn't be a pureblood. He must just be a few years younger. Even so when he offered his jacket she was too worried to say yes, "I think i'd rather just get warm back in my common room. Not too far off, eh?" She took a few slow steps away and hugged herself. He was already taking off his jacket and she wished she could just walk right back into the lake. Forget this ever happened. The sudden decisions seemed great to her, as if it would shape her entire life. And she wasn't even sure of what he was yet. "Thank you though, you're a real gentleman." She smiled faintly as if this line would make up for her walking away. It was a total lie of course, he had hardly done anything and she thought of him as nothing but a face.

He pouted at the girl, pursing his lips and trying to make his eyes look like a little lost puppy, he didn't want her to go back to the safety of her common room, not quite yet at least since he hadn't had his fun.
He put his jacket back on, realizing that the girl wasn't going to take the bait, he had to try something else, she clearly wasn't as dumb as he'd sized her up to be, and she seemed slightly afraid of him, which of course was a very intelligent reaction to someone like him approaching you in the night when there was no one around to hear you scream.
A grin crossed his face as it so often did when he became lost in his thoughts, a bit of a bad habit he had. Licking his lips he looked at her face fist, eyes burning into hers, no more shy, coy young man from him, being himself was always the best way to go.
He chuckled a bit at her comment about him being a gentleman, for he was anything but, and even though he could tell she was completely lying to him it was nice of her to say so. "Well, miss, I should probably escort you back to your common room...so no one tries to, hmmm, take advantage of you." he said with a devious grin, he was sure he was the only one who would be any danger to her on her walk back to her common room.
But of course she would never find that out, he would be chivalrous, and persuasive if necessary, and she would never even know that she had no choice but to give into him, she would think everything she did was by her own accord, and he didn't even need to use any spells, for his own natural charm, charisma, and deviousness was all the tools he needed to get his way every time.
He walked near her and looped his arm through hers, like the gentleman he knew he wasn't, and began to walk and almost drag the seemingly unwilling girl next to him while he whistled a melancholy tune about something he couldn't quite remember.

Odette had begun to walk away but some part of her couldn't resist looking back on the man she wouldn't give a chance. He was pouting and she thought the expression didn't suit him very much, but didn't say a thing. Only when she realized she was standing there starring at him did she begin to blush shyly. Odette was about to turn away when she caught the smile crossing Calix's face. It was the kind of evil grin you only get when you're thinking devious thoughts. Odette bit her lip and looked away, remembering that he could be dangerous and that she was dumb to still be standing there.
She had turned her back on him when he offered to escort her. The Ravenclaw wit in her had to contain itself but she did mumble, "only if you stop undressing me with your eyes." For she could see that he was the only monster in the night. He must have thought of himself as such a gentleman as he looped his arm through hers and began to drag her rather forcefully. She yelped slightly, caught off guard by his touch and exclaimed, "I-I dropped something! Yes my necklace fell off! Oh gosh, you must help me! It was very precious." She slipped out of this arms and fell to the ground, frantically searching for the made-up family treasure.
Her brain turned some cogs and slowly began to start up, how to get out of this? She couldn't just dust the dirt until the sun rose. And she must be making a rather big fool out of herself at the moment. She wondered if he was buying this or just rolling his eyes. She assumed playing cool was now out of the picture. She had so skillfully eliminated that herself.
